People who show strong determination and are passionate will invariably succeed in their ambition. However it does not happen over night and you need to practice continuously and be patient. An example is Derren Brown who once flipped a coin ten times, coming up heads each time. This was completely a television stunt as all he did was to flip a coin nine hours straight until he got the desired outcome!

To get a better understanding of magic, it is good to learn the associated history and how the technology has helped to make it bigger. There are number of techniques involved in the area which need a clear understanding so that one gets an idea where to specialise. You have to start from the basics, books and online courses are a good resource.

You have to start from the basics. There are many great books and online tutorials that you can start with, one is the magic mentalism course that we are promoting in the advert on this page. Otherwise you can buy great books from Amazon and great tricks from companies like Ellusionist. It is often a cunning plan to record yourself practicing on video and then watch yourself to check your performance. In addition it is worth practicing in front of friends and family.

Once you have mastered tricks start to work as an amateur before getting people to pay you! And never forget to maintain eye contact with your audience. Mistakes are a way to learn so don’t let them discourage you and remember to always keep eye contact with your audience.

How to Video your Childs Birthday Party magic show

If you are going to have a magic show for your childrens birthday party it is in our opinion always a good idea to get it filmed. Glen, a magician from Brisbane, has this advice for parents on how to film their childs magic show and I thought it worthwhile sharing with you.

Parents often ask whether they can record my magic show either by video or taking photographs and I don’t mind at all…in fact… I want the parents and children to be able to look at those images of the magic show and remember what a great time they had.…even many years after the birthday party or celebration

So, what can you do to ensure you make the most of the birthday party or celebration?

My first recommendation would be to hire a professional photographer, one who has experience with children’s birthday parties and ask to see some sample photographs, if you shop around they are not as expensive as you may think…and you only get one chance to capture the day….I will be putting a couple of photographers on my ‘links’ page in the future to assist you. I have seen a couple of excellent photographers and some of their photographs are on my website…can you spot them.

If you are not an experienced photographer yourself…ask around the other parents…you may be surprised at how many Mum’s and Dads are keen amateur photographers and will be happy to capture those happy moments, ask them to read this article…it may help them.

Lets take a look at ‘still photographs’ first…if you have a look at the photo’s on my website you will notice that they are all taken close-up and at kids level…so yes!…get ‘down on your knees’ and ‘zoom in’ to capture those happy faces…mouths open…eyes wide with delight…screaming with joy…you will need to have some patience…but they are the images that you will treasure….again, for examples, see the picture on my website.

Recording the birthday party on video is also very popular…but not as easy as it may seem…here are a few ideas that will help. Firstly, my magic show is 40 minutes long and that’s a long time to stand there with a camera at your eye. I often see parents filming, standing behind the children at the back of the room…they capture some of my show on film and the back and tops of the kids heads….hmmmm….not so good!…..There is a better way!…and it is similar to still photography…get yourself a nice comfortable chair, a low chair is best or sit on a cushion to try to get a kids eye view. Position yourself up the front and to the side so you can film the kids faces laughing, going crazy, getting excited and when the children come up to help ‘Magic Glen’ you can just swing the camera around to capture those magic moments as well…and don’t try to capture the entire magic show…take a break and relax…then film some more…and you will end up with a DVD that is ‘Gold’.  My magic show has a structure to it and there are a few moments that you don’t want to miss…when your child makes Rocky the live rabbit appear is one of them..so feel free to see me before the magic show and I can let you know when those ‘Kodak Moments’ are going to happen.

Please take a look at my video clips to get some examples of images captured close up

I hope you have found this article helpful..it is based on literally 1000’s of performances

Good Luck with it…Magically Yours ‘Magic Glen’
